Did you ever wonder why you feel so good once you sign up for an event or by setting yourself goals?
Well here’s why – You get a direct hit of dopamine!!! Yes it really happens…
A chemical released by nerve cells transmits signals to other nerves. The brain has several dopamine pathways one of which plays a major role in reward-motivated behavior. Most types of rewards increase the level of dopamine in the brain, and make you feel good, hence why you feel so motivated once you’ve made that commitment! Awesome hey?
In other words: “Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that helps control the brain’s reward and pleasure centers. Dopamine also helps regulate movement and emotional responses, and it enables us not only to see rewards, but to take action to move toward them.”
So if you’ve ever been paralysed with the fear of committing to that dream goal or you just haven’t found what it is yet…. go and find something that really scares you and dance with the fear, make that commitment and sign up!
I’ve decided on mine… to run 100 miles!!! Oh dear, did I just say that out loud?
It may not come to fruition until next year and it scares the hell out of me, but I’m excited already!
What’s going to give you your next hit of dopamine?
